Many truck drivers know that in addition to the steel body, the paint is often one of the criteria for measuring the durability of a semi trailer. Generally speaking, the paint of a high-quality semi trailer can last for three or four years, and it is very difficult to last longer than that. Because once the semi trailer leaves the factory, it has to withstand constant tests, such as sun and rain, gravel impact, and cargo wear and tear on the paint.
Therefore, it can be seen that the painting effect of the semi trailer greatly affects its service life and performance. So how do we paint a semi trailer? What should we pay attention to during the painting process?
1. Substrate treatment
The pretreatment of the semi trailer substrate includes rust removal and oxide layer removal. The substrate surface is treated by flushing with a modified rust remover solution, or by wet spraying with a mortar with corrosion inhibitor added. Subsequently, the substrate surface is sprayed with pure water to ensure that no rust adheres.
2. Drying
The cleaned substrate is dried to ensure that the substrate surface temperature is 5-30℃ higher than the dew point temperature, so that the quality of the paint surface can be guaranteed during painting.
3. Spraying
The dried substrate surface is evenly sprayed with paint. This step is the key to forming the paint surface, and it is necessary to ensure the uniform distribution of the paint.
4. Re-drying
The sprayed topcoat is dried and then cooled naturally. Re-drying can ensure the firmness and durability of the paint surface.
5. Special Processes
(1) For semi trailers that pursue higher quality paint, powder spraying can be used. This is a powder electrostatic spraying technology. A special electrostatic spray gun is used to charge paint particles with negative charges, which then fly to the positively charged surface of the workpiece to form a solid coating. After spraying, high-temperature baking and curing are required to enhance the hardness and corrosion resistance of the coating.
(2) More advanced processes include the combination of electrophoretic coating and powder spraying. This process can maintain the integrity of the paint surface for seven years, greatly improving the durability and aesthetics of the semi trailer.
Paint care is also an important part of semi trailer maintenance. After painting is completed, it is also important to focus on body paint maintenance during daily use. Here are some tips for maintaining your semi trailer's paint.
1. Before, during and after using the semi trailer, dust on the vehicle body must be removed promptly to minimize the absorption of dust by static electricity on the vehicle body.
2. Rinse promptly after rain. After rain, the rain stains on the car body will gradually shrink, causing the concentration of acidic substances in the rain to gradually increase. If the rain stains are not washed with clean water as soon as possible, the paint surface will be damaged over time.
3. When scrubbing the semi trailer, use a clean, soft rag or sponge to prevent metal chips and sand from mixing in. Do not use a dry cloth, dry towel or dry sponge to wipe the car to avoid leaving scratches.
Semi trailers’ paint maintenance needs to be persisted for a long time in order to achieve a better maintenance effect.
