A motor vehicle that has reached the national scrapping standard or, although it has not reached the national scrapping standard, has a severely damaged engine or chassis and, after inspection, has been found to fail to meet the national technical conditions for motor vehicle operation safety or fail to meet the national motor vehicle pollutant emission standards, is called a scrapped vehicle.

Generally speaking, a semi trailer needs to be scrapped if the following conditions occur.

1. Technical standards are not met. When the technical performance, economic performance or exhaust emissions of semi trailers do not meet the requirements of national regulations, these trailers will be forced to be scrapped. ‌

2. Decreased economic efficiency. As the semi trailer ages, its performance will gradually decline, resulting in increased fuel or material consumption, and a sharp increase in maintenance frequency and costs.

3. Safety risks. The mechanical structure, safety equipment and driving control system of old semi trailers have aged severely due to long-term use, increasing the risk of accidents. In addition, semi trailers that have been illegally modified and have not undergone annual inspections on time can also pose a serious threat to road safety.

How do we scrap a semi trailer? What materials should we prepare when applying to scrap a semi trailer? Next, I will reveal the answers to these questions for you.

1. Obtain the registration review application form

First, the semi trailer owner needs to fill out an application form for the approval of motor vehicle changes, transfers, modifications, suspensions, and scrapping. The semi trailer owner needs to stamp the application form and sign to confirm.

2. Application for registration and review

For semi trailers that have reached the scrap age, the owner will receive a Vehicle Scrapping Notice; for semi trailers that have not reached the scrap age, they need to be inspected and determined to meet the vehicle scrapping standards before the Vehicle Scrapping Notice can be issued.

3. Vehicle delivery by recycling company

The owner needs to hand over the scrapped semi trailer to the recycling company and ensure that the semi trailer is destroyed. After the delivery of the semi trailer, the scrapped motor vehicle recycling and dismantling company will hand over the registration certificate, license plate, and driving license of the scrapped motor vehicle to the traffic management department of the public security agency for cancellation to ensure the legitimacy of the vehicle information.

4. Scrapped car recycling certificate

The recycling company will issue a Scrapped Car Recycling Certificate, check the photos and vehicle dismantling conditions, sign, and take back the license plate. The semi trailer owner needs to apply for approval and handle scrapping registration in accordance with regulations.

In general, the above are the steps for scrapping semi trailers. There may be slight differences in the procedures for different regions and different models. You can consult the local traffic police department for an exact response. These steps are to ensure that the vehicle can be scrapped safely and effectively to avoid any impact on the environment and road safety.
